WHAT IS NUTRITIONAL THERAPY?

Nutritional Therapy centers on the belief that real health can be achieved through a holistic and bio-individual approach to nutrition and lifestyle.  This functional approach to health focuses on restoring balance to the body through a nutrient dense diet, natural therapies, supporting the physiological foundations of health and lifestyle changes.

Many of modern society’s health problems result from weaknesses in the body’s physiological foundations brought on by poor nutrition.  Physiology refers to the body and its systems, your biology and anatomy all wrapped up together.  Bio-individual refers to the uniqueness of each person and how their body and nutritional needs vary.  Nutritional Therapy is dedicated to helping individuals reverse the negative effects of the modern diet and harnesses the power of nutrition to restore their body’s systems.  Restoration of body systems comes as a result of supporting the physiological foundations of health.  These foundations of health are dependent upon nutrients to support ALL of your body’s functions and systems.

Nutritional Therapy focuses on building the 6 physiological foundations of health:

Why Nutrition?  Because the body runs on nutrients.  Nutrients are the chemical substances contained in food that are necessary to sustain life.  Our body is like a factory and every cell, tissue, organ and organ system depends on nutrients to function properly.  Nutrition starts at a cellular level with the cells making up the tissues, the tissues making up the organs and the organs making up the organ systems.  If the cells don’t receive the nutrients that they need, the tissues will suffer and as a result, the organs will suffer.  When one or more organs are nutritionally deficient, the organ systems will not function as intended and the person will present with health conditions.  Simply, the presence of symptoms and disease is an indicator that the body is nutritionally deficient.  Nutritional Therapists use educational tools and techniques to identify and correct nutritional imbalances and deficiencies.

By strengthening the physiological foundations and providing nutrients, the body has what it takes to heal itself.  This leads to the resolution of symptoms and even disease.

The training to be a Nutritional Therapist is thorough, comprehensive, and rigorous.  It is evidence-based and backed by science.  Scientific principles about how the human body functions, both anatomically and physiologically are our guide.  The physiological foundations and dietary interventions are from a holistic point of view.  The beliefs and teaching of nutritional pioneering greats such as Dr. Weston A. Price and Dr. Francis M. Pottenger are fundamentals of Nutritional Therapy.  Price and Pottenger are considered two of the greatest scientific minds ever to research nutrition, food supplies and their effect on modern society.
